Riverfront house in Louisville nearly destroyed by fire

LOUISVILLE -- Louisville firefighters have returned this morning to the scene of a fire on Wilson Hill to extinguish flareups after battling a serious house fire half the night.

Louisville Fire Chief Corey Snyder says his department was called out shortly before 8 p.m. to a house on the St. Lawrence at 234 River Dr.

“There was heavy smoke and flames visible” after he and the company arrived.

Snyder said heavy flames were working their way from the back one-story part of the house toward the front and a second story over the garage.

“It’s pretty close to a total loss,” he said.

In addition to his volunteers, departments from Massena, Norfolk and Waddington, plus Massena Rescue, responded to a mutual aid call.

He said they finished up at about 2 a.m. today.

The two homeowners were at home, but they were not hurt, nor were any firefighters injured.

This morning’s flareups were extinguished. The cause and origin were still under investigation, Snyder said.
