RENSSELAER FALLS -- Rensselaer Falls Mayor Michael Hammond is calling on healthcare and education workers who can possibly serve as volunteers to contact the village board to help out locally.

“The Village Board would like all of our residents to know that we are actively engaged in our ongoing COVID-19 concerns,” Hammond said in a press release. “Following an emergency preparedness meeting at the village level we have decided on the following measures. We are diligently working to address any issues that may arise and are trying to think outside the box for solutions to mitigate this threat. As mayor I am working with county officials and the health department as policies are being created and released. To that end we will be updating all of you weekly about the situation.”

He said the village is looking for volunteers to possibly man a small kitchen, deliver goods and check in on individuals on its “High Risk List”.

Also, the village will be repurposing its “Little Libraries so that they will now house perishable foods for students and some everyday school supplies like paper, pencils and supplementary educational materials.

“As you are all aware we want to maintain our vigilance to this ongoing situation and to continue to take precautionary measures,” Hammond said. He asked that residents continue to follow local news about ongoing directives.

Anyone in the village who personally falls under any of the following categories and would like to be added to the “High Risk List” is asked to contact: Michael Hammond at 315-267-0189; Jolene LaSiege at 315-869-8681; James Blackburn, 315-854-4855; Mark Bomyea, 315-528-6721 or rfmayorhammond@gmail.com
