Highs topped out at 86 degrees across much of St. Lawrence County Thursday, breaking records in Canton, Ogdensburg, Gouverneur and Star Lake, according to the National Weather Service.
The previous record was 80 degrees was set in 1957.
Gouverneur and Star Lake broke their record as highs of 86 were recorded yesterday at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for the southern portion of the county. NWS did not have the previous record available.
Although highs reached into the 80s on Thursday in Massena and Potsdam, they were not record-breaking.
Highs topped out at 81 degrees in Potsdam and Massena. The reading was recorded at the official National Weather Station at Massena's Richards Field.
The previous record for Massena and Potsdam for April 27 of 89 degrees was set in 1990.
Highs today will be in the mid-60s with winds of 14 to 16 mph, NWS says. Overnight lows will be around 50.
Saturday has a 20 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m. with partly sunny skies and highs near 63, the service says. The overnight low will drop to below 40 degrees.
A cold front is expected to move into the North Country bringing possible showers and cooler temps heading into the work week.
