Pro-wrestler Buff Bagwell coming to Potsdam in Fight for the Mind

POTSDAM — The first ever “Fight for the Mind” heavyweight champion will be crowned in a 20-man over-the-top battle royal Jan. 26 at Potsdam Central’s high school gymnasium.

The show, as in previous years, will help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association of the Northeast.

Shaun Balaban, a 2001 graduate from Massena, is organizing the show. His mother passed away a from dementia and Balaban is continuing to put on shows on in her memory.

Buff Bagwell, former WCW star and NWO member, will headline the show against Balaban, who wrestlers under the name “The All Knighter” Shooter Storm. Storm will have his new bodyguard Atlantis in his corner for this bout.

Fan favorite Myzery the Barbarian, from Alexandria Bay, returns in a clash of big men as he takes Central New York’s own “Beast from the Northeast” Brute Van Slyke.

Former ECW and ROH star HC Loc will take on Massena native Payne.

Tag team gold will be on the line when the Roc City Wrecking Crew (Hellcat and Mattick) clashes with Defiance (Maximo Suave and Chris Cayden).

The “Big Motha Trucka” Dewey Murray, Shockwave the Robot, The "Canadian Road Warrior" Roy Demerchant, and international star Jay Freddie are also expected to wrestle on the card.

A meet-and-greet begins at 5:45 p.m. Doors open at 6:40 p.m. with a bell time of 7:05 p.m. for the opening contest.
