Potsdam Holiday Fund seeking donations, volunteers

POTSDAM — Each year, the Potsdam Holiday Fund helps to make the holidays happier for hundreds of families in our community.

Last year, it provided 611 children with gifts, books, and warm clothing; and distributed food baskets and vouchers to 360 families and 164 senior citizens.

The Potsdam Holiday Fund serves families and senior citizens in need in Potsdam, Madrid, Hopkinton, Nicholville, Brasher Falls, Chase Mills, Fort Jackson, West Stockholm and Winthrop.

To do all of this, the fund partners with more than 50 local merchants who set up “giving trees,” hundreds of generous donors who contribute cash and gifts, and dozens of dedicated volunteer “elves” drawn from all across the community.

As an all-volunteer organization, the fund is proud that 96 cents of every dollar it raises goes directly to help those it serves.

It’s easy to help. Volunteers can make a donation toward the purchase of gifts, warm clothing, and food; sponsor or participate in fund-raising events like the Hobble-Gobble Prediction Run/Walk on Nov. 17; adopt a Giving Tree to display in your place of business, or select a Giving Tree tag and buy a gift for an individual child; or join the fund's energetic volunteer “elves” to wrap gifts, deliver food baskets, or assist parents as they select items for their children.

To help, complete the card at potsdamholidayfund.org/volunteer.html and mail it to the Potsdam Holiday Fund with your check made payable to The Potsdam Holiday Fund. People can also email donors@potsdamholidayfund.org to request a card.
