Peer leaders sought for county Health Initiative's 'I Can Feel Better' program

Peer leaders are needed to teach St. Lawrence County residents the tools to help live a healthy life with chronic disease through the “I Can Feel Better” program offered by the Health Initiatives Office.

I Can Feel Better is a program that teaches adults experiencing chronic health conditions (i.e. diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, etc…) practical skills on managing them. Trained volunteer leaders teach highly participatory workshops that take place once a week for 2 ½ hours for a six-week period.

Workshops are facilitated by two trained volunteer leaders.

All materials are provided, and mileage is reimbursed to leaders.

All open-minded, friendly individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of a group, and enjoy helping people can become leaders. No healthcare training or previous experience is needed.

The training will be held Thursday and Friday, Sept. 8-9 and Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 13-14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Health Initiative Office, 6439 State Rt. 56, Potsdam.

The four-day training is free of charge to volunteers, and breakfast and lunch is provided. Volunteers must agree to facilitate at least two 6-week workshop sessions within one year of the training.

Volunteers must attend all four days of training.
