GOUVERNEUR -- The parents of a runaway 16-year-old girl are asking for help in finding her.

Justine Morgan Wells, 5’ 1”, 96 pounds, was reported missing Monday, July 11. In Gouverneur, she was last seen just after noon in a municipal parking lot that day, but state police report she was seen in Potsdam last Thursday.

Her parents say she has run away.

One unconfirmed report indicates that she did leave a note saying she was running away but that no leads have been developed from it.

Justine has long brown curly hair, blue eyes, a diamond stud nose piercing on the right side, and usually wears glasses, though she also sometimes wears contacts.

On the 11th, she was reported to be wearing a yellow t-shirt, black shorts with white stripes and carrying a light blue backpack.

“As her father it's my job to try to help,” Leon Wells told “I know this is not the norm for your picture post, but as a follower of North Country Now, pics are one of the first things I look at and hopefully others do as well.”

Her mother, Crystal, describe her as “very timid and shy and very smart. She is going to be captain of varsity swim this year and is whole heartedly involved in orchestra. She is a concert buff and loves music. Nirvana is her favorite band. She loves to read and is a total bookworm. Her favorite stores in our mall are Borders, Hot Topic, Spencers and Charlette Rouse. She is a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl and is almost always wearing a rock tee.”

Surveillance camera photos of the parking lot in Gouverneur show her standing on the sidewalk

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call New York State Police in Gouverneur at 287-2870 or 287-7972.
