CANTON -- One person was transported to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into Josie’s Pizzeria, 25 Main St., Tuesday night, according to Canton Fire & Rescue.

Rescue personnel were contacted around 11:19 p.m. about a motor vehicle accident with initial reports of a vehicle into a building, Canton Fire Chief Robert Crowe said.

Assistant Chief Shawn McGregor was enroute arrived on scene at 11:24 p.m. to find a vehicle on the sidewalk in front of Josie's Pizzeria that had apparently struck the building causing significant damage to the vehicle and building.

An ambulance and rescue personnel were on scene shortly thereafter.

“Patient care was initiated immediately and members began clearing debris from around the vehicle to allow for patient removal,” Crowe said.

Once the patient was assisted out of the vehicle and transferred to the ambulance, and the police investigation concluded, members began the task of clearing the concrete and metal debris from the sidewalk.

The building owner was assisted in securing the property and consolidating debris into one pile for removal in the morning.

A tarp was placed over a broken plate glass window and the area was cordoned off to prevent pedestrians from being injured, Crowe said.

“A special thank you goes out to Sergi's for providing two large pizzas to our members after the incident,” Crowe said.

Canton police said charges are pending following their investigation.
