North Country to enter Phase 2, one new COVID-19 case Friday in St. Lawrence County, total positives at 201 out of 8,718 tested

North Country is allowed to enter Phase 2 of reopening today Friday, May 29, said a press release from the governor's office.

Meanwhile, one new case of COVID-19 was reported to the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department today (Friday, May 29), bringing the total number of confirmed positive cases to-date to 201.

The Phase 2 reopening allowed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo authorizes office-based workers, real estate services, in-store retail shopping and some barbershop services to resume. Each industry is subject to specific state guidelines to maximize safety and social distancing. Public Health said 183 COVID-19 cases have been released from isolation.

No cases are hospitalized.

Public Health reports that 8,718 people have been tested for COVID-19 in St. Lawrence County as of May 28. This testing data comes from the New York State Department of Health and was last updated on May 29 before 2 p.m.

Testing is offered through both St. Lawrence Health Systems and Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. Testing is by appointment only.

Public Health continues to ask local residents to inform the state of "non-essential" gatherings or businesses that they feel might be operating contrary to the governor's current lock-down orders associated with the pandemic. Violations of the state's orders can result in a $1,000 fine said Public Health.
