One new case of COVID-19 reported in St. Lawrence County May 8, total cases at 190

CANTON -- St. Lawrence County Public Health reports that there was one new case of COVID-19 reported today (Friday, May 8), bringing the total number of confirmed positive cases to-date to 190.

Public Health said 144 cases have been released from isolation, and five cases are currently hospitalized.

Two deaths have occurred the department said. This fatality data comes from the New York State Department of Health and was last updated on May 8 before 2 p.m.

Public Health said 3,293 people have been tested for COVID-19 as of May 8. This testing data comes from the New York State Department of Health and was last updated on May 8 before 2 p.m.

Testing is being done through both St. Lawrence Health Systems and Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. Testing is by appointment only. Call the hotline numbers below between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. if you have symptoms or feel you should be tested:

• St. Lawrence Health System, 315-261-6240;

• Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, 315-713-6655;

• Clifton-Fine Hospital, 315-848-8049; and

• St. Lawrence County Public Health Department, 315-229-3448.

All residents should continue to stay home as much as possible, Public Health said. The department advises that those venturing out for groceries, medical care, or work should wear a face covering and stay 6 feet away from others. Residents should continue to wash hands with soap for 20 seconds often, and clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces regularly, Public Health said.
