OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council Comptroller Tim Johnson said his office is operating the lowest budget since 2003 and is continuing to make do with as little spending as possible.
At a budget workshop Tuesday, Johnson showed the council that since he took over the comptroller position spending has continued to decrease within his department.
He has proposed a budget of $318,277 compared to last year's $327,499.
He said his former job, which was essentially a deputy comptroller position, was eliminated when he took over the comptroller job.
Jonson also went over a proposal by council to change water billing cycles from quarterly to monthly but the cost increase would be substantial.
He estimated a minimum increase of $35,856 if the city were to go to monthly billing.
He said that the cost would likely be much higher as the added work would require additional staffing and other expenses he did not include.
Council took no action on the matter Tuesday, but further discussion is expected as budget talks continue over the next few weeks.
