OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education appointed four full-time teachers effective at the beginning of 2017-18 school year at Monday’s meeting.

Frederic Glover was appointed secondary English teacher at a salary of $45,884.

Meagan Kirchoff was appointed secondary special education teacher at a salary of $45,894.

Two elementary special education teachers, Amy Spooner and Stephanie Carkner, were also appointed at salaries of $44,894.

Superintendent Timothy Vernsey noted the district would likely need to fill a dozen full-time positions at a January board meeting due to upcoming retirements.

“With all the cuts we did the previous years, a couple of years ago we reached a point where as people retired we had to replace them,” Vernsey said back in January.

Vernsey has also stated to the board that the district thoroughly examined each position to ensure a replacement was absolutely necessary before moving forward with the hiring process.

The district is currently facing an impending budget problem of over two million dollars for the 2017-18 school year, mostly due to the rising costs of health insurance.

Several other matters relating to personnel were also approved by the board at Monday’s meeting.

Sandra Wright was appointed half-time secondary mathematics teacher at a salary of $22,547 and half-time teaching assistant at a salary of $15,919.

Jennifer Stevenson was provisionally appointed computer operator (12-month) at a salary of $42,487.

Lisa Murray was appointed full-time food service helper at a salary of $21,478.

The board also approved the resignation of girls’ varsity lacrosse coach Matthew Shaver, who was replaced with the appointment of Matthew Curatolo at a salary of $2,817.50. Curatolo’s resignation as girls’ modified lacrosse coach was approved by the board, who appointed Rachel Atkins as the new modified coach at a salary of $1,577. The coaching appointments are for the remainder of the current spring season.
