Ogdensburg City Council meeting postponed after exceeding capacity of 1,000

OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council did not start a meeting tonight after they once again exceeded capacity of the meeting application's subscription.

Last Wednesday, the council voted 4-3 to lay off seven employees, but a memo from City Manager Sarah Purdy on Friday said the resolution has no legal effect.

Tonight, other expected discussion topics included extending an airport contract, exempting the police chief position from the hiring freeze and entering into a fleet management agreement.

A brief discussion occurred although the meeting was never formally started.

Deputy Mayor John Rishe pushed to proceed with the meeting, however City Clerk Cathy Jock said proceeding would be a violation of open meetings law.

Mayor Jeffrey "Mike" Skelly questioned what would happen if a normal meeting exceeded capacity.

Jock told him that the venue would have to be moved in order to accommodate all that wanted to attend.

Rishe said she was incorrect and Mayor Skelly asked about moving the meeting to Wednesday to ensure all could attend.

Jock then ended the meeting.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
