The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce's 2018 collectable ornament will show the Ogdensburg Town Hall and Opera House.
“The pride of downtown was the Ogdensburg Opera House and Town Hall which was built in 1880/81 and opened on November 10, 1881. With stained glass patterned after the Reims Cathedral in France, the Opera House was a live venue much of its life but switched to films for its final 12 years. The Opera House would screen films until January 22, 1926 when it suffered a major fire gutting the facility. It was demolished and replaced by a new town hall. Some of the stained glass, however, was salvaged," the chamber said in a news release.
The ornament collection now includes: 2005 Lighthouse Point (sold out), 2006 Spirit of Liberty, Soldiers & Sailors Monument, 2007 Remington Art Museum (sold out), 2008 NYS Armory, 2009 Ogdensburg City Hall, 2010 Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge (sold out), 2011 The Old Arsenal, 2012 Ogdensburg Public Library, 2013 The Bishop’s Residence; 2014 Abbe Picquet Monument; 2015 US Post Office (sold out), 2016 General Curtis ornament (sold out) and the 2017 United Helpers Orphanage.
