OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg city councilors agreed on Monday to dissolve a portion of Paper Montgomery Street and put the property up for sale.
A paper street is a term for a roadway that appears on maps but does not actually exist or is no longer actually used as such.
They unanimously approved dissolving a section of the street from Paper Prospect to Paper Barre Street. The decision followed a public hearing at which only one person spoke. Donald Langley asked a few questions about lots near the property. Mayor Wayne Ashley told them the majority of lots had already been sold.
Dissolving the section of the paper street paves the way for the city to sell the property.
City council also approved a resolution to hold a public hearing Feb. 13 at city hall to allow for comments regarding the city’s intent to sell the parcel at auction.
City staff is recommending the property be put to auction with a minimum bid of $2,550.
Ogdensburg has been working to sell excess city-owned properties so they can generate tax revenue. In Ogdensburg only 41 percent of the city’s total assessed property value is taxable.
