Norwood declares state of emergency

NORWOOD - The Village of Norwood has declared a state of emergency, which allows the local government to circumvent laws in the name of public safety.

The declaration allows the village to enact a curfew, suspend local laws, establish shelters, limit the sale of firearms and alcohol, limit gatherings and restrict traffic.

Village Mayor Tim Levison says the village has no plans to enact any such restrictions, but wants to "err on the side of caution."

Several communities as well as county and state officials have enacted similar measures.
