North Country weather forecast: Pleasant start to the week

The National Weather Service says high pressure moving into the North Country from across the northern Great Lakes will bring a pleasant start to the work week.

Temperatures will be warming into the 70s today and Tuesday to near 80 on Wednesday, along with modest humidity levels and light winds.

Showers are expected to arrive Thursday and be widespread across the region Thursday night.

Drier weather should return for Friday and the weekend, forecasters say.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

• Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52. Light and variable wind.

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. Light and variable wind.

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind.

• Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Calm wind.

• Thursday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

• Thursday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. North wind around 6 mph.

• Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72. North wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. West wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 5 to 8 mph.
