North Country hospital CEOs urge residents to get flu vaccinations

Posted

Chief executives from several North Country hospitals gathered to promote vaccination against influenza to prevent transmission by healthcare workers and the general public.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual flu shot for everyone over six months of age as the single best step to prevent the spread of flu viruses.

They wished to emphaisize the importance of getting vaccinated against the flu as a professional and business priority for their hospitals.

The CDC estimates that the flu costs business in the United States $10.4 billion annually in direct costs for hospitalizations and outpatient visits, a figure which goes much higher when factoring in costs related to lost work days.

New York State Public Health law now requires that all healthcare personnel receive flu vaccinations as an important step to prevent the transmission.

Seasonal flu vaccinations typically begin every fall.
