GOUVERNEUR -- Assemblyman Marc W. Butler, R-Newport, who represents much of central and southern St. Lawrence County, will hold a rally 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in support of his SAFE Act repeal legislation.
The event will take place at the Gouverneur VFW, 100 West Main St.
Butler will be joined by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush, R-Black River, who also sponsors the bill and represents southwestern St. Lawrence County; Tom King, New York State Rifle and Pistol Association president; and St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells. Other local elected officials and interested parties have been invited.
The bill (A.6140/S.879-C) would repeal portions of the SAFE Act throughout the state except for the five boroughs of New York City. The legislation is designed to remove the SAFE Act’s “top-down” provisions to help “free local communities from wasting resources on enforcing overreaching regulations on law-abiding citizens.” Butler says.
Additional rallies are being planned for other regions in the assemblyman’s district and in the state.
