AKWESASNE -- The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) are keeping Akwesasne under a state of emergency and all emergency measures taken continue to be in effect, according to a joint release from the two governing bodies.

They say Akwesasne community members are asked to continue adhering to all the preventive and protective measures authorized by the respective councils. That includes a community curfew is in place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout the territory. Community members are required to stay home and off the roads during these hours, tribal officials said.

They recommend that community members remain within a 50-mile/80-kilometer radius of Akwesasne. Community members who travel outside this radius are required to quarantine (if they have no symptoms) or isolate (if they have or develop symptoms) for 14 days upon their return.

“For the safety of our entire community, it is best that you not travel outside the 50-mile/80-kilometer radius during the State of Emergency,” tribal officials said.

Both MCA and SRMT say the state of emergency “will continue until COVID-19 no longer poses a threat to the health, safety, and welfare of our community.” For any COVID-19 related emergency matter, the respective Emergency Operations Center (EOC) from Monday through Friday between 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. by phone: MCA’s EOC (613) 575-5005 or (613) 575-2331 or SRMT’s EOC (518) 320-0019.
