MASSENA -- A Massena woman has been appointed to the Massena Memorial Hospital Board of Managers.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray named Carol Fenton of North Racquette River Road to a five-year hospital board term.
“Carol will be a great addition to the MMH Board. She is an experienced professional. Her decades of work for the U.S. government will offer a new perspective to the board as it proceeds with the transitions from municipal hospital to a not-for-profit,” Gray said.
The board has two remaining vacancies.
“I probably will not fill them all but might appoint one more at some point,” he said via email on Monday, adding that he did not reappoint Ed Hamel after his term expired last month.
In a news release, he said his initial thought was to leave some remaining board seats vacant to allow the hospital to select its own board once they privatize, but Gray said he revisited that idea.
“With the amount of work necessary to transition to not-for-profit status, I’ve decided it is important to have some additional hands and brain power at work in the coming months,” he said in the release.
Fenton retired as the Associate Administrator for the St. Lawrence Seaway in Massena, where she was employed for 36 years. She and her husband, Ray, have two sons, one daughter and two grandchildren.
