Massena, Star Lake, Ogdensburg, Potsdam, Gouverneur and their surrounding areas are under flood watch from Friday evening through Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service says “record warm temperatures” and rain expected Saturday could cause minor to locally moderate flooding as the snow melts.

Temperatures on Saturday are expected to climb into the mid 60s.

“The greatest flood threat will occur concurrent with and after the heaviest rainfall, which is expected Saturday afternoon into Saturday night,” according to a notice from the NWS. “The flood threat will be enhanced on rivers with potential ice breakup, which includes the basins of far northeastern New York.”

NWS says flood watch means there is “a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.”

“You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop,” according to their flood watch notice.

Temperatures on Thursday are expected to get as high as 59 degrees, with 50 to 70 percent chances of showers in all St. Lawrence County communities. Temperatures Thursday night are predicted to fall just below freezing with increasing clouds.

Friday is expected to bring freezing rain and rain, with daytime temperatures getting close to 40 degrees and about 10 degrees warmer in mountainous areas. Friday night is expected to remain about as warm as daylight hours with continuing rain.

Saturday is forecast to be in the mid 60s with up to 80 percent chances of rain. Nighttime temperatures are predicted to fall to the high 20s with chances of showers dropping to around 40 percent.

Sunday is forecast to be partly sunny with temperatures around freezing, with 30 percent chances of snow in the mountains.

Thursday afternoon - Showers likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 63. Southwest wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday night - Isolated showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday - A chance of rain or freezing rain before 9am, then rain. High near 40. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Friday night - Rain likely before 8pm, then a chance of showers between 8pm and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday - Showers likely between 8am and 2pm, then rain after 2pm. High near 64. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday night - Rain before midnight, then a chance of rain showers between midnight and 4am, then a chance of rain and snow showers after 4am. Low around 28. Southwest wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday - Partly sunny, with a high near 35. West wind around 17 mph.

Sunday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph.

Monday - A chance of snow showers before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 11am and noon, then a chance of rain showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Southwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
