Massena softball tourney raises over $15k for Canton-Potsdam Hospital Center for Cancer Care

MASSENA -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care was the recipient of the largest donation in the seven-year history of a charity softball tournament organized by Becky Good.

This year’s tournament, held in Massena in July, raised over $15,000 for the Breast Cancer Navigation Program at the CPH Center for Cancer Care. The donation was accepted on behalf of the center by Interim Director of the CPH Center for Cancer Care Ben Hull.

“The Patient Navigation program was designed to improve access to, and timeliness of, cancer services by reducing gaps in care. Navigators work with breast cancer patients to help them understand their options related to health insurance, transportation to appointments, support groups, and referrals to specialist,” Hull said.

In its 10 years, the annual charity softball tournament has raised over $100,000, with nearly $75,000 dedicated to the Center for Cancer Care. Staff members of the Center have participated over the years.

The CPH Center for Cancer Care provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Medical and radiation oncologists lead the treatment team, which includes certified oncology nurses, certified radiation technologists, and a board certified oncology pharmacist.

Located on CPH’s main campus in Potsdam, the center is equipped with a “vault-less design” linear accelerator, a dedicated CT-scanner for treatment planning, and is supported by an imaging department equipped with the latest in low-dose imaging and 3D mammography technology. The center also offers integrated treatments such as reiki and massage therapy.
