Massena, O'burg libraries limiting services, others taking actions in response to coronavirus

Massena and Ogdensburg Public Libraries are limiting some library services, and other libraries are also taking actions, due to the COVID-19 threat.

The local libraries are encouraging patrons to sign up for a library card to be able to use free ebooks, audiobooks and digital magazines online, even if the libraries are closed.

On Monday and Tuesday, Ogdensburg Public Library planned to clean areas on a rotating basis. “Please feel free to call or message the library before coming in, so we can let you know what areas or services are unavailable,” said Ogdensburg director Penny Kierfien in a Facebook post. The ibrary is open until 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Colton Library is now closed pending instruction from town/county/state and the reults of the county legislative meeting Monday night.

Lisbon Hepburn Library Board is meeting Monday afternoon to decide how they will handle the situation, so Michelle Stottlemyer McLagan posted on Facebook. “I highly advise you to make use of library services Monday between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.”

Norwood Public Library was already closed due to renovations, but “educational and recreational online services that we will highlight in the upcoming days,” said Director Amanda Jones on Facebook.

Colton library said they were now closed pending instructions from town, county and state authorities, and the county’s legislative meeting tonight.

Norfolk and Madrid libraries remain open at this point, according to their Facebook pages.

Over the weekend, Potsdam announced it is closing Monday night at 8 p.m. Canton, Morley, and Rensselaer Falls, and Heuvelton libraries are closed through April 20. Waddington is closing at 4 p.m. Monday. Gouverneur library’s website stated they were closed until further notice, but phone messages and emails will be monitored by library staff, and ebooks, audiobooks and eMagazines can be downloaded from the library’s website for free.
