MASSENA -- Firefighters from three departments responded to a fire that destroyed a garage off of South Grasse River Road on Monday morning.
Massena Permanent Firefighters in a Facebook post said they and volunteers “responded within minutes and arrived on scene to find a large detached garage with fire throughout.”
They said the “stubborn fire” took several hours to put out.
Massena Fire operated with Engine 31, Engine-Tanker 4, Rescue 77 and Engine 28. Massena firefighters were assisted on scene by tankers and manpower from Helena and Hogansburg-Akwesasne volunteer fire departments and EMS standby from Massena Rescue Squad. Louisville Volunteer Fire Department stood by their own quarters to cover any calls in the village while MFD operated at the fire, permanent firefighters said.
