MASSENA -- The Board of Education last Thursday approved staff and substitutes, granted tenure to a teacher, and okayed leaves of absence and a resignation.
The board appointments included Angela Kossan, Madison Elementary teacher, effective Sept. 3, 2019 to Sept. 2, 2023, $43,143 salary; Amanda Averill, Madison elementary teacher, effective Sept. 6, 2019 to Sept. 5, 2023, $40,281 salary; Colleen Haggett, Jefferson Elementary registered nurse, effective Sept. 30, $48,799 salary; Sherry Engel and Kristi Bell, districtwide Latchkey monitors, both effective Sept. 5 at $13 per hour.
The board appointed substitutes including Joshua Jock, long-term junior high special education teacher substitute, Sept. 3 to a to-be-determined date, $105 to $150 per day; Sue Villano, long-term high school special education teacher sub, Sept. 10 to 20, $300 per day; Ginny Sullivan, long-term high school special education teacher sub, Sept. 23 to Oct. 18, $300 per day; districtwide teacher/teaching assistant substitutes Thomas Hardy (effective Sept. 20), Shavon Thomas (effective Sept. 16) and Maria Thuman (effective Sept. 16), all at $95 per day.
The board granted final tenure to Jefferson elementary teacher Cassondra Barney, effective Dec. 13.
The board okayed leaves of absence for Madison teacher's aide Jessica Smith from Oct. 2 to Nov. 13 and junior high math teacher Jay Czajkowski from Oct. 3 to Nov. 18.
The board accepted a resignation from bus monitor Jeanette Denesha, which was effective at the close of business on Sept. 2.
