CANTON – A man at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility has been arraigned on felony assault charges after he allegedly hit a corrections officer in the face during book-in on another charge.
Philip A. Alcantra, 19, Brooklyn, had been arrested in Ogdensburg Thursday morning on a city court bench for allegedly failing to appear at a court date and was ordered held on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint at about 3 p.m. from the county lockup of an assault there. A corrections officer had been struck in the face causing a laceration to the officer’s lip. The officer was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was released after the laceration was stitched up.
Alcantra was arraigned on a charge of second-degree assault and ordered held on $2,000 bail.
