Madrid-Waddington Central names senior class leaders for 2016

MADRID -- Madrid-Waddington Central School named more than a dozen students at Class of 2016 leaders.

Jazmine Trombley graduates with a 90.10 average. She is the daughter of William and Susan Trombley. She is attending Hartwick College in the fall and plans to major in nursing. She is a member of the National Honor Society at Madrid-Waddington and a member of the National Technical Honor Society at Northwest Technical Center. She is treasurer of National Technical Honor Society. She has participated in volleyball throughout her high school career and she has participated in figure skating for 13 years. She has received a variety of athletic awards, including the sportsmanship and coaches award in 2015. Hartwick College has awarded Trombley their Freshman Scholarship, which totals $104,000 over four years.

Shane Cryderman graduates with a 90.20 average. He is the son of Kent and Diana Cryderman. He plans to attend SUNY Canton and will major in health and fitness promotion. He is a member of the Madrid-Waddington track team. He was also captain of the varsity soccer and hockey team during his senior year. He is active in the Varsity Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.

John Lenney graduates with a 90.46 average. He is the son of Robert and Victoria Lenney. He plans on attending Clarkson University in the fall, majoring in engineering and has joined the Air Force ROTC program. In addition, he has been awarded the Air Force ROTC scholarship. He has been a scholar-athlete throughout his high school career, participating in many spring productions, most recently participating in the musical “9 to 5.” He is a member of the Honor Society and vice president of NHS. He has also served as president of the Class of 2016 all four years of high school.

Allyssa Sabre graduates with a 91.82 average. She is the daughter of James and Sheryl Sabre. She is planning on attending SUNY Potsdam, majoring in psychology. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Club, Stardust, Select Choir and Stage Band. She has participated in volleyball, cheerleading, All- County Band and Chorus and Area All-State. She is vice-president of Stardust. She has been involved the school musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and played the lead role, Judy Bernley in the spring production of “9 to 5.”

Hanna Hawkins graduates with a 92.57 average. She is the daughter of Kevin and Mary Hawkins. She has been accepted to the registered nursing program at both SUNY Canton and North Country Community College. She plans on pursing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Throughout high school, she has been involved in Drama Club, Varsity Club and the National Honor Society. She is a certified nursing assistant and is finishing her certification as a home health aide. She was awarded student of the month in her BOCES program in February and is an avid and well-decorated carp angler. She has also received several athletic honors such as Academic All-Northern and Outstanding Sportsman Award for her participation in soccer and track.

Paige Moulton graduates with a 92.87 average. She is the daughter of Bernie and Amy Moulton. She plans on attending SUNY Plattsburgh in the fall, majoring in childhood and special education. She participates in chorus, Stardust, Select Choir, band, softball, yearbook and the Madrid Fire/Rescue Explorers. She is a member of the National Honor Society and she has been involved with 4H and Future Farmers of America. Her involvement with FFA was through an affiliation with Canton High School, where she also took classes in agriculture. She will graduate with 34 high school credits in June, twelve more credits than what is required in New York. She has held several leadership positions through FFA, 4H and she is the secretary of National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the SUNY Plattsburgh North Country Scholarship.

Olivia Parmeter graduates with a 92.88 average. She is the daughter of Terry and Karen Parmeter. She plans on attending Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the fall to pursue a doctor of pharmacy degree. She is a member of National Honor Society, Drama Club, Yearbook and History Club. She was a two-time first team All Northern for varsity basketball and varsity soccer. She has assisted with the biddy-basketball program since seventh grade. Olivia has also received

Magna Cum Laude

Kathryn Travis graduates with a 93.41 average. She is the daughter of Earle and Tamara Travis. She plans on attending Johnson and Wales University in the fall, majoring in baking and pastry. She is a recipient of the Presidential Academic Scholarship and ProStart Scholarship. She has been a figure skater since age 2. She is a member of the Drama Club, having a lead role in the fall production and a supporting role in “9 to 5 The Musical” and participates in varsity track and field. She is also a member of National Honor Society, as well as the National Technical Honor Society. She is completing her career and technical degree in culinary arts.

Sadie Newcombe graduates with a 93.81 average. She is the daughter of Steven and Mary Newcombe. She plans on attending Niagara University, majoring in political science. She will graduate with an advanced Regents diploma with a mastery in mathematics. She is a member of Drama Club, National Honor Society, stage crew (fall and spring), Science Olympiad, yearbook and History Club. She plays varsity softball were she has earned the Section 10 Sportsmanship Award and is a two time Academic All Northern. She is the recipient of a Niagara University scholarship of $72,000 over four years.

Angelina Domena graduates with a 94.21 average. She is the daughter of Robert and Christine Domena. She plans of attending Ithaca College in the fall where she will be a member of the Park School of Communications and the swim and dive team. She is a member of the Drama Club, Varsity Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook Staff and Newspaper Club. She holds three Canton high school records for swimming in the 500-meter freestyle, 200-meter individual medley and 200-meter medley relay, as well as the Section 10 league record in the 200-meter medley relay. She has received first and second team All Northern Awards and Academic All Northern award for grades 10, 11 and 12. She was awarded the Section 10 Swimmer/ Scholar Award for accomplishments in academics, service and athletics. She is also a member of the varsity track team.

Brooke Nichols graduates with a 94.70 average. She is the daughter of Matt and Jackie Nichols. She plans on attending SUNY Brockport for physical therapy in the fall. She is a member of the Yearbook Club, Varsity Club, Lab Rats (Science club), Drama club and the National Honor Society. She participates in basketball, soccer, track and she has received several Academic All Northern honors. She has been awarded the Presidential Scholars award from SUNY Brockport.

Wade Lawrence graduates with a 94.75 average. He is the son of Steve and Nancy Lawrence. He plans on attending Clarkson University, majoring in electrical engineering. He is a member of band, stage band, Speech and Debate, Drama Club, Whiz Quiz and National Honor Society. He has been treasurer for the Class of 2016 for all four years of high school and is a Boy Scout with aspirations of becoming an Eagle Scout. He has played basketball and golf since junior high and ran cross country for the past two years.

Summa Cum Laude

Cheryl Squires graduates with a 95.22 average. She is the daughter of Michael and Jane Squires. She plans on attending St. Lawrence University and will major in business and statistics. She is a member of Mock Trial, History Club, National Honor Society and she has served as a class officer for three years. She has received Academic All Northern honors while in high school. As part of her involvement in the drama club, she was the stage manager for both the fall play and the spring musical this year. St. Lawrence University has awarded her with the Augsbury North Country Scholar Award.

Elizabeth Froats graduates with a 96.69 average. She is the daughter of Jason Froats and Katie Logan. She plans on attending SUNY Canton in the fall, majoring in nursing. She is president of National Honor Society, has been involved in the fall and spring productions since eighth grade. She has also participated in chorus, Lab Rats Science Club, the NCSTEP program and has served as a class officer. She has received Academic All Northern honors for the past two years for her participation in varsity basketball. This year, she studied in the allied health program at Northwest Tech.
