OGDENSBURG – More OGDENSBURG -- More than two dozen brave people plunged into the chllly St. Lawrence River Saturday and raised $4,577 at the same time.
The 13th annual Polar Bear Plunge was sponsored by the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce.
Rescue squad members cut blocks of ice more about three feet thick to create a hole for participants to jump in.
Many of the jumpers were dressed in creative costumes for the event.
Including in the jumpers were 11 International Foreign Exchange Students from St. Lawrence county. They raised over $1,000.
After plunging into the river, the jumpers quickly headed inside the Dobisky Visitor’s Center for a hot shower. NCNow photos by Cheryl Shumway.
