Independence Day celebrations set tonight, Tuesday in Morristown, Norwood, Colton

Independence Day holiday celebrations are planned in several communities tonight, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4.

The following towns and villages have events scheduled.

Morristown

In Morristown, a busy day of events will take place July 3-4.

Fireworks will be held at dusk on Monday, July 3. There will be live music from Another Fine Mess from 7-11 p.m.

On July 4, the day's events begin with the Steven Spilman Memorial Fourth of July Parade on Main Street at 10 a.m. Bands from Gouverneur, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Morristown and Ogdensburg are slated to perform. Those who wish to be in the parade are asked to line up on Main Street at 9:30 a.m.

The parade is named in honor of long-time fireman Steven Spilman.

Moore said Spilman had organized the parade for many years and was named in his honor in 2014, shortly after his passing

Independence Day activities shift to the fire station at 11:30 for a variety of activities. There will be a car show, craft show, chicken BBQ and a water ball tournament.

There will also be kids games, 50/50 raffle, games of chance, beverages and concession stand food will be sold as well.

Norwood

Celebrate Independence in Norwood with two fun filled days of events featuring fireworks by the Norwood Volunteer Fire Department, a demolition derby, block dance and a parade.

Monday, July 3

FREE Live Music at the Norwood Fire Station​

7 to 9 p.m.: Norwood Brass Fireman performing

9 p.m. to 1 a.m.: Block Dance with Divided Roads

Tuesday, July 4

10am - 5pm: Bounce Houses on the Village Green (1 wet, 1 dry) *Pricing below

10 - 5pm: Mountain Express Locomotive Train Rides at the Village Green: $5 per person

1pm: Parade beginning at the Norwood American Legion

2:30pm: Demolition Derby at the Fireman's Field, $4 admission

Dusk: Fireworks Display at the Fireman's Field

Glow sticks will be available to purchase at the Fireman's Field for the fireworks

DEMOLITION DERBY

Registration: $30 per Derby Car

Register at the Fireman's Field 8:30am - 12:30pm

A Youth Driver Class is available: Ages 10-14

Anyone participating that is not the driver of the car must pay $4 event admission

PARADE ROUTE

Line up begins on Lake Shore Dr., right Spring St., left of Park Ave. right onto Bernard Ave., Right onto CR 56, left on Bicknell St., right on Morgan St. and disband on Whitney St.

SUGGESTED VIEWING AREAS FOR THE FIREWORKS

The Fireman's Field on Morgan St., on the top of the hill along S Main St./CR 56 (near the 711), and on the Village Green behind the Fire Station. Cotton Candy will be available for purchase in the Village Park. No gates fees, but donations are encouraged to the Fireman passing "the boot" to support next years celebrations.

Colton

The community living along Higley Flow in Colton will once again kick off Independence Day with its annual River of Lights celebration and children’s parade and boat parade.

The River of Lights event will be Monday, July 3, from 9:15-10:30 p.m. Residents living along Higley Flow will light flares along the shore to light up the river.

On Tuesday, July 4 the annual children’s parade will step off at the junction of Cottage Road and Arbuckle at 10 a.m.

Children and adults wearing patriotic colors and outfits will march up Cottage Road to Gulf Road.

Boats following along with the marchers along the shore are encouraged to decorate their boats in honor of July 4.

Massena

There will be no official festivities in Massena this year and no fireworks planned at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall.
