Heuvelton man expected to serve seven years for possessing large quantity of narcotics

James Pike is expected to be sent to state prison for seven years with two years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on a later date, according to the St. Lawrence County District Attorney's Office.

Pike will also be required to forfeit seized proceeds and pay any fines the court may impose, the DA's office said.

Pike and a co-defendant, Erin A. Irvine of Ogdensburg, were arrested Sept. 4 after county detectives and Drug Task Force members said they found them with over 750 grams of cocaine, 120 grams of heroin and $13,000 U.S. currency.

Detectives at the time of the arrest said through their lengthy investigation, they believe Pike and his associates would travel to the New York City area and pick up large amounts of cocaine and heroin and distribute it to the Ogdensburg and Heuvelton areas.

“The St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force found the defendant with almost a kilo of cocaine, nearly four ounces of heroin, and over $13,000 in proceeds from trafficking illegal drugs in our community," DA Gary Pasqua said in a prepared statement.

A news release from Pasqua's office said the DA "expressed his gratitude for the investigations and efforts of the Task Force noting that those individuals who traffic drugs here prey on vulnerable populations, generate violence, and encourage theft."

“Prosecution of such individuals is vital to addressing and minimizing these injustices here in St. Lawrence County," Pasqua said.
