Heavy rains and thunderstorms expected Wednesday followed by potentially dangerous heat Friday

Posted

St. Lawrence County is under a hazardous weather outlook as the National Weather Service expects heavy rains Wednesday followed by potentially dangerous heat on Friday.

Meteorologists attribute this to a storm system created by what's left of Tropical Storm Barry.

"Expect widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday as a cold front moves down from Canada and interacts with deep moisture associated with the remnants of tropical system Barry. Rainfall amounts will generally be in the half inch to one inch range with Some locations receiving amounts in the 1 to 2 inch range. These could lead to localized flooding. The heavier precipitation will move out of the area later Wednesday night into early Thursday with a relatively dry day expected," the NWS said in a hazardous weather statement.

They expect this to be followed by a sweltering Friday and potential thunderstorms and more rain on Saturday.

"On Friday we will transition to hot and humid conditions with high temperatures well into the 80s to lower 90s. This combined with dew points around 70 will lead to Heat Index values in the lower to mid 90s. These values indicate extreme caution is advised as the likelihood of heat disorders increases. In addition to the hot and humid conditions on Friday and Saturday the threat for showers and thunderstorms will exist. Some of the storms will have the potential to become strong or severe," NWS said.
