POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will once again offer free music instruction for local children through two separate programs this year.

Beginning piano instruction open to all students (Kindergarten to Grade 3): The Crane School of Music will offer beginning piano classes for children in Kindergarten through grade 3 throughout the 2018-19 academic year.

Children will receive group and individual instruction in piano from Dr. Kathryn Sherman and Crane music students.

The registration deadline for this program is on Monday, Aug. 27.

For more information or to learn how to enroll your child, contact Dr. Sherman at (315) 267-3230 or shermakd@potsdam.edu.

Band instruction for home-school/private school students (grades 4 to 8): The Crane School of Music is once again providing free instruction for home-school and private school students on woodwind, brass and percussion instruments this semester.

Children ages 9 to 15 can learn to play flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, cornet or trumpet, trombone or percussion.

Crane undergraduate music students will provide weekly lessons for children as a part of their music education curriculum. Lessons are taught using a variety of engaging instructional approaches and musical styles, for students at beginning through intermediate musical levels.

Lessons begin on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and space is limited.

To learn more about the program and sign up for lessons, contact Dr. Emmett O'Leary at (315) 267-2665 or olearyej@potsdam.edu.
