OGDENSBURG -- Five Indian nationals and a suspected smuggler were captured Nov. 15 after they attempted to evade a temporary immigration checkpoint, the Border Patrol reports.
A vehicle driven by a United States citizen evaded an immigration checkpoint by going the wrong way up a one-way road on State Route 37 near Morristown, said U.S. Border Patrol agents in a press release.
The agents, from the Ogdensburg station, were able to locate the vehicle as it turned into a parking lot of a local business in Ogdensburg.
The occupants exited the vehicle and ran inside the business. Agents pursued and were able to apprehend the driver and five people from India.
Border Patrol agents said the five individuals do not have immigration documentation allowing them to remain in the United States legally.
All were taken into custody and transported to the Ogdensburg Border Patrol Station for further processing.
