MACOMB — A fire in the hamlet of Pope Mills destroyed a home that was recently vacated by a family, according to Morristown Fire Chief Jay Moore.

The fire was reported at 10:55 p.m. Sunday and the structure was fully engulfed in flames upon firefighters arriving on scene, he said.

A family reportedly moved out two days prior and the home was empty at the time of the blaze, Moore said.

A passerby called the fire in.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.

Brier Hill firefighters assisted on scene.

The 12-by-30-foot mobile home was owned by John Love and was reportedly insured.

The building is considered a total loss.

The cause is under investigation.

“It’s hard to determine the cause when it’s a total loss,” Moore said.

No injuries were reported.
