CANTON – A traffic stop Oct. 12 around 5:30 p.m. in the Mountain Mart parking lot on East Main Street revealed multiple mobile methamphetamine labs and led to the arrest of the driver on several charges.
Jesse L. Anson, 39, 14 Court St., Edwards, was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of meth, a class D felony, second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A2 Felony, criminal impersonation, a class A misdemeanor, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, an unclassified misdemeanor, and operating on a suspended registration, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Anson attempted to falsely identify himself as another person to evade an active arrest warrant during the stop, said Canton Village Police. Further investigation revealed multiple active mobile meth labs in Anson’s vehicle, which resulted in a Canton Town Court search warrant.
The State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) responded to the scene, processed the evidence and mitigated the hazardous waste, said village police.
Anson was arraigned in Canton town court before Judge Morgan and held in the St. Lawrence County Jail with no bail.
The Canton Police Department was assisted by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, the New York State Police and their CCSERT Team and the Canton Fire & Rescue Department.
