Emergency declarations and CDC recommendations could keep the public from attending town, village, city and county meetings throughout St. Lawrence County, but there are ways these meetings can be easily streamed online.
Many municipal governments in St. Lawrence County have shut their office doors and adopted CDC and public health guidelines of “social distancing” to avoid exposure to novel coronavirus, with several towns declaring States of Emergency.
Some local boards have opted to live stream their meetings to comply with Public Meetings Law while still blocking in-person attendance by the public at the sessions under the powers of the State of Emergency declaration.
Other municipalities have cited technological shortcomings as reason not to broadcast meetings despite the legal requirement.
For municipalities that haven’t opted to stream their public meeting sessions, both Youtube and Facebook offer free, viable, and easy options.
