MASSENA -- Lawyers are reviewing a draft document to turn Massena Memorial Hospital management over to St. Lawrence Health System, according to MMH board chair Loretta Perez.

"We're waiting for the lawyers to sign off and then we'll be all set on that," Perez said at Monday's Board of Managers meeting.

The MMH board and Town Council recently passed resolutions saying they "agree to the concept" of SLHS managing MMH.

That will involve the state Department of Health giving money to help with MMH's transition to a non-profit entity. DOH will also be involved with "anything that goes on between the two of us," Perez said Wednesday, May 15.

Meanwhile, the state is considering a Certificate of Need MMH submitted to convert to a critical access hospital.

Officials have said previously that it won't affect the services they offer, but will give them a better Medicare reimbursement based on lower patient numbers they seen in recent years.

"We're still in progress with that. We've answered any questions so far (DOH) had. We hope it gets fast tracked," MMH interim CEO Pat Facteau said at the Monday MMH board meeting.
