MASSENA -- Traffic will be stalled on Main Street at the end of the month. The state is milling and repaving the road from Maple Street to state Route 37.
"More than 8,300 cars traverse the Main Street every single day. It will be a bit of a disruption for about a week," Mayor Tim Currier said at Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting. "There will be at least one lane open. There will be (traffic) direction. It will be an inconvenience but it is for the good of everyone."
DPW Superintendent Hassan Fayad said the milling contractor, Rifenburg Construction, will begin milling on June 26. That is expected to take two days. He is hoping they will be able to do that part at night, but it may not happen because the state doesn't have nighttime work written into their specifications.
He said the paving contractor, Barrett Paving, is expecting to have the stretch paved in three days, but they haven't said yet when they will start.
