CLARE -- The state Department of Environmental Conservation is highlighting the Lampson Falls Trail in Clare as a place to go if you’re eager for a short hike with a great payoff this spring and summer.

Lampson Falls, part of the Grasse River Wild Forest, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Adirondacks with a vertical drop of approximately 100 feet. The half-mile long accessible trail provides an enjoyable stroll through the forest ending at an overlook on the falls.

The majority of the trail is at a grade of 5% or less, but users should be prepared for steeper grades of up to 10% to get them to a point mid-falls for a great view of the falls and the surrounding area.

Level resting areas are provided at close intervals.

Lampson Falls Trailhead Parking Area is located off County Route 27 (44.4050°N, 75.0617°W). From Canton, go south on Park Street, which becomes Rt. 27. In the Town of Clare, just north of Degrasse, look for the brown and yellow DEC sign at a gated road. Park on the roadside and head down the dirt road.
