BRASHER — A man and woman were charged Oct 24 following an investigation of an open burn, according to the Department of Conservation.
The DEC officer found the couple burning debris on land that is for sale. The officer reportedly explained that it is illegal to burn debris that is considered garbage and the materials should be disposed of at a registered dump.
The officer issue tickets for unlawful burning of solid waste.
On Oct. 29, the same officer was traveling with a fellow officer when he received another complaint at the same location.
Upon approaching the scene, the officers spotted thick grey smoke covering the Deer River. The same subjects were burning another pile of solid waste from a different location, DEC said.
The officer issued tickets for the unlawful disposal of solid waste, unlawful burning of solid waste, and operating a solid waste facility without a permit.
