CANTON – The county Board of Legislators has declared a state of emergency from 4 p.m. May 22 until Friday, June 21 due to rising water levels of the St. Lawrence River.
The declaration, announced late Tuesday, May 21, establishes a “no wake” zone within 600 feet of the river’s shore line.
Rising water poses a threat to life and property along the shore, said board chairman Joseph Lightfoot in the declaration.
Earlier today, Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for St. Lawrence and the other shoreline counties along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. Read more on that here.
