Chance of snow showers to linger through Friday in North Country, NWS says

Warmer weather is here with high temperatures across much of the North Country near or above freezing today and expected again on Friday.

The National Weather Service is calling for cloudy skies and the chance of snow showers through Friday night.

A strong arctic cold front will move through the region Friday afternoon and evening. An even colder air mass will descend upon the region behind this front with record lows expected Friday night and Saturday night. Lows will be in the single digits across most spots.

Saturday will be sunny. Highs will range from the upper teens to mid 20s.

This cold snap will be short-lived with temperatures warming back to near normal through the beginning of next week. A warm-up is expected Sunday through Wednesday, forecasters say.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• This Afternoon: Snow showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

• Tonight: A 50 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. South wind 7 to 14 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Friday: Snow showers likely, mainly between 3pm and 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Southwest wind 11 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 4. West wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 22. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the morning.

• Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 4. Light east wind.

• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. East wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. East wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Monday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 34. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Light northeast wind.

• Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

• Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
