Canton village board to host March 30 meeting online

CANTON -- Village residents will be able to virtually attend the next Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Village Mayor Mike Dalton issued a statement Saturday which said that details about viewing and participating in the meeting from personal computers, tablets, smart phones and landlines will be posted on the village website and released to local media prior to the meeting.

“With the Village Board and our excellent staff, we are working diligently to ensure public safety and reduce the transmission of the coronavirus in our community,” Dalton said. “We are following all Federal and State executive orders and advisories, and are working closely with the County health department to stay apprised of developments.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed and executive order Friday mandating that starting March 23 the state was on “pause,” essentially decreeing a shelter in place order to help lessen the spread of COVID-19. People are not to gather in groups of any size in public spaces and practice social distancing in other instances.

Dalton said that pursuant to the order, 100 percent of non-essential village employees are working from home.

“Employees doing work that is considered essential to the safe and necessary operations of the Village and to our response to the COVID-19 emergency, including public safety and public works, are being scheduled to work in shifts that ensure a safe work environment and recommended social distancing,” Dalton said.

“Together we can face the health and economic consequences of these measures. For the health and well-being of everyone, we must all urgently follow national, state, and local directives,” the mayor said.

Village residents are advised to visit www.cantonny.gov for constantly updated information on all national, state, and local orders, advisories, and recommendations.
