North Country This Week
CANTON – The town and village boards will host a public hearing on a proposed annexation into the village of a lot in the town on Sullivan Drive owned by Argent Developments LLC.
The hearing will be held July 30 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building, 60 Main St.
The town board approved the public hearing date officially at its meeting Thursday, July 11.
Kenny Moore of Argent Developments attended the meeting and spoke about the project with the board.
The acreage, already surrounded on three sides by village land, is the site of an ongoing housing development by the company.
The annexation will allow Argent to run village and water sewer lines past the 6-unit apartment building it has already constructed, The Village Flats, to the site of several lots where it intends to build houses.
An agreement reached two years ago between the village and the company allowed for village and water sewer at the apartment building. However, theses services are at the outside rate which is higher than the village rate. In addition, the earlier agreement will not allow more village water and sewer availability on the lot past the apartment building.
Christopher Corriveau of Argent Developments has told North Country This Week previously that they intend to subdivide the property to construct single family homes there.
The houses will be around 1200-1400 square feet with three bedrooms, a full basement and single car garage. The buildings will match the style of The Village Flats building.
The company originally had intended to construct more apartment buildings at the site like The Village Flats, which offers rental units for around $1,600 a month. However, the company has changed their plans to offer single family homes on the property instead.
