POTSDAM – Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation recently received a $5,862 grant from Children’s Miracle Network – the 6th grant awarded to the hospital from CMN in the past 10 years.

This year’s award purchased a neonatal/pediatric GlideScope, which is used to ease intubation for patients who need help breathing during trauma situations, during surgery or otherwise while under anesthesia or sedation.

The GlideScope has a fiber-optic light and camera in its handle, which enables the anesthesiologist to clearly see the patient’s vocal cords, airway and esophagus.

This facilitates much quicker and less traumatic intubation.

GlideScopes have been in use for several years in the Hospital’s operating room and emergency department.

Having the additional pediatric-size scope has proven very helpful in intubating the Hospital’s youngest and smallest patients during scheduled surgeries, and in trauma situations.
