CANTON – The Canton town board has approved two fund transfers from the general fund to pay for a municipal building needs assessment and an engineering study of Miner Street Road.
At their meeting Thursday, July 11, the board approved reallocating $9,000 to cover the study of Miner Street Road that will be conducted by Brooks Washburn Architect P.C. of Potsdam.
The village of Canton will share in some of the cost of the study.
The company bid $9,800 for the work, which both boards approved last month. The study will review a 1.2-mile section of the roadway, from inside the village at the Clark Street intersection out to Jingleville Road, and gauge needed infrastructure improvements, notably for pedestrian and non-motorized traffic safety.
At their meeting Thursday, July 11, the board also approved a fund transfer from the general fund to help cover the costs of a needs assessment of the municipal building.
The Watertown engineering firm Bernier, Carr and Associates will do the work for a bid of $19,000 plus $500 in expenses. The town and village are expected to share equally in the cost.
Representatives from the firm met with Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley and Village Mayor Michael Dalton on Tuesday, July 9 at the municipal building to discuss the assessment.
A full scale study of the municipal building’s space, configuration, heating, infrastructure and technology needs. The firm will meet with each department and assess the needs of the town and village employees.
