CANTON -- The Canton Fire Department celebrated its 150th anniversary Saturday with a parade down Main Street followed by an open house at the fire department on Riverside Drive.
The parade featured many of the department’s members and vehicles.
A number of other local fire departments also participated, including Rensselaer Falls, Morley, DeKalb Junction, Hannawa Falls, Norwood, Potsdam, Colton, Lisbon, Heuvelton, Fine, Morristown, Ogdensburg, Madrid and West Stockholm.
Following the parade, state Assemblyman Mark Walczyk and Jim Reagan, representing state Sen. Patty Ritchie, presented Chief Robert Crowe with proclamations recognizing the anniversary.
A fire station open house following the parade featured historical displays, food and bounce houses for children along with music performed by Robert Larrabee.
