CANTON — A greenhouse at Canton Central School will be torn down due to safety concerns.
CCS Superintendent Ronald P. Burke said the structure “is in a state of serious disrepair.”
The greenhouse was added to the school in the 1980s.
“In addition to having served as a greenhouse, it also housed a portion of the former fish farm,” Burke said.
He said the brick facade is crumbling and falling away from the cinderblock wall.
“The foundation of the structure has moved to the point where the door is no longer able to open or close fully,” Burke said. “It presents a safety concern to allow its use by students and staff.”
Danko Construction, based in Massena, received the bid to remove the structure for $5,140.
