The No. 7 Cornell University women's hockey team scored three goals in the final 10 minutes and 22 seconds of the game, including two empty net goals, to defeat ninth-ranked St. Lawrence University in an ECAC Hockey contest on Friday night at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, New York.

With the loss, the Saints fell to 9-7-1 overall, 4-1-0 in ECAC Hockey, while Cornell improved to 7-1-4, 5-1-1.

"We tried our best to get it going tonight and just couldn't get one in to get the energy up," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "It was one of those games where a goal would have been a big difference for us. Cornell came out flying and we were able to hold them off in the first. We had a good second where we hit the post twice and worked hard. Cornell did a great job on the penalty kill and was persistent all night on the puck."

The Big Red scored their first goal just under seven minutes into the second period. Lenka Serdar flipped the puck towards the slot from the blue line, and Pippy Gerace picked the puck out of the air with her stick and settled it before sweeping a backhand inside the left post.

Charlea Pedersen almost tied the game early in the third period, but Kristen Guerriero's centering pass was just out of her reach.

The Big Red took a 2-0 lead halfway through the third period after winning an offensive zone faceoff. Sedar tipped a shot from the point by Willow Slobodzian right in front of the crease for her second point of the night.

Paige Lewis increased the lead to three goals with an empty-net shorthanded goal with just over five minutes to play, and Madlynne Mills added another empty net goal just over a minute later to put the game away.

The Saints were scoreless in four power play opportunities and did not allow Cornell to score during the Big Red's only power play of the game.

Cornell held a 35-18 edge in shots on goal; Grace Harrison made 31 saves while allowing just two goals for St. Lawrence. Marlene Boissonnault stopped all 18 shots she faced to record the shutout for the Big Red.

The Saints will wrap up the road weekend at Colgate on Saturday with opening faceoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
